PLEASE READ! TALLULAH & BODIE NEED YOUR HELP!

Unfortunately, in our business, with the advancement of technology and the flow of information, the plight of thousands of animals crosses our desk on a daily basis.  All so deserving, all so in need, all requiring love and attention.  We have learned that in order to be effective in this world of animal rescue, you help those that you can and pray that the others will have animal heroes in their lives to help them with their own happy endings.

So when we got the call about Tallulah and Bodie needing a new home, it was one of those instinctual moments where we just knew that we had to help these two precious girls not only stay together but to have a wonderful new forever home.

You see, Tallulah & Bodie’s mom rescued them from a New Mexico animal shelter just as they were about to be euthanized.  Tallulah was only a young pup who had been hit by a car and suffered a head trauma causing her to be blind in both eyes.  The shelter felt that no one would want to adopt a blind dog plus space was very limited.  Bodie was a very shy, timid and scared girl so she too was voted for euthanasia because she was deemed “unadoptable”.  Linda, who volunteered there, was incredulous over the fact that these two beautiful young dogs were going to lose their lives so she decided to adopt them so that she could re-home them herself.

What Linda soon witnessed was truly incredible.  These two dogs immediately developed a symbiotic relationship with each other.  Tallulah, being very smart and confident, helped Bodie overcome her fears and Bodie,  immediately recognizing  that Tallulah was blind, became her “eyes”;  assisting her in moving about the yard and house.  Linda claims that it is truly amazing and heartwarming to watch these two in action.

Now, Linda’s life has taken a huge emotional hit with the loss of her husband in a plane crash and many emotional and economic issues to deal with.  She moved to Montana several months ago from New Mexico with the hopes of finding peace and enrichment in a small cabin in the mountains … she brought along her own five dogs plus Bodie and Tallulah.  Unfortunately, this was not the life changing decision Linda was hoping for and now finds that she needs to move back to New Mexico the middle of October.  Her hope always has been to find that perfect home for these two girls but life, as it tends to do, has had another agenda for Linda.  She feels that it would be detrimental to separate these two dogs and we agree 100%.  Tallulah would probably adjust but it is Bodie that we are most concerned about … being Tallulah’s seeing eye dog gives this girl purpose and confidence. We cannot take that away her!

Tallulah and Bodie are both almost two years young.  Tallulah is a Greyhound/Catahoula mix and Bodie is a sweet little brindle mutt of some type.  They are both housebroke, spayed, micro-chipped, and current on all their shots/vaccines/worming meds. They are leash-trained although Tallulah, the blind one, is excellent on a leash and Bodie is fair. Bodie is scared of almost anything, except Tallulah. Tallulah knows most all commands so Bodie does what Tallulah does.

Linda has contacted breed specific rescues, "disability"-specific rescue groups, animal sanctuaries, and websites to ask for assistance in placing these dogs, even temporarily, but so far, no one has agreed to do so.

So Rimrock Humane Society has decided to pick up the “Tallulah & Bodie” banner and run with it … we so want there to be a happy ending for these two incredibly sweet canine friends.  We ask that you post and cross post this message to help us get the word out and see if there just might be the perfect home waiting for these dogs.

Please contact the Rimrock Humane Society for more information at 406.323.3687 or
wschurch@midrivers.com – we can answer more specific questions if you have them!

Let’s get this done people!  Tallulah and Bodie (and Linda) are counting on us!  Please see their pics below!

BE A PART OF HISTORY! SET A RECORD, HELP ANIMALS & LOOK GREAT!

So how can you be an integral part of setting a world record AND help animals in the process? Please allow us to introduce you to Patrick Lomantini, a Master Stylist, who has set an ambitious goal with his 50 Haircuts in 50 States in 50 Days Tour. It is his vision to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records, for a second time, while giving back to specific animal charities in every state by cutting 50 “heads of hair” in 50 states (yup, that’s a new state every day) within 50 days.

The tour will start August 1st in Augusta, Maine and end on September 19th in Lomantini’s hometown of Wichita, Kansas. This is not the first time that Lomantini has channeled his passion for animals through the scissors in his hand. In 2010, he set a Guinness world record by cutting hair for 72 hours straight; total head count … 277 haircuts and donations of $1,625 which was presented to the his local humane society. He is also the man behind BarkAID, a yearly charity fashion show benefiting the Kansas Humane Society.

Lomantini will be bringing his tour to Billings, Montana on September 4th and the Rimrock Humane Society is honored to be the beneficiary of the donations from this event. All haircuts are free, however, a suggested minimum donation of $25 is recommended. Seems a great exchange when helping save a life!

The Sanctuary Spa & Salon in Billings will be hosting Lomantini and his hair cutting extravaganza. In order to be successful, he needs 50 willing participants in every state so please call Sanctuary at 406.655.1701 and make your appointment today! Be one of the lucky 50 people included in this world record setting event! Lomantini claims it will take him 12 hours to complete these 50 haircuts so this event will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. Hand massages and relaxation chair massages will be available for an additional donation!

Feeling a little trepidacious about trusting your tender tresses to a complete stranger? Then by all means, we invite you to meander over to the Lomantini Salon’s Facebook page and get acquainted with the Master Stylist. You can also follow Lomantini’s record breaking travels on his personal blog.

Board members, volunteers and many of the homeless animals from the Rimrock Humane Society will be on hand to witness Lomantini making history and to support our kind friends at the Sanctuary Spa and Salon located at 1504 24th Street West, Billings Montana.

So what are you waiting for? Call the Sanctuary at 406.655.1701 and make your appointment today … how often do any of us get to assist in setting a new world record AND help homeless animals at the same time? If you have any further questions, please feel free to also contact the Rimrock Humane Society at 406.323.3687. Hope to see you there!

TWO SWEET SENIORS LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME

Sweet little Ginger & Rusty are sisters who have lived together their entire lives and, unfortunately, their human mom had to go into assisted living due to health issues. These two are now looking for a forever home TOGETHER - there is no way we could ever separate these girls at this point in their lives!

Ginger is the larger of the two, she goes about 14# and Rusty was the "runt" of the litter and weighs in at about 9#. They have never been around other dogs and don't really seem interested in "hanging" with others of their kind. Never been around cats or children for that matter. Both are wonderfully housebroken and can be left for hours at a time with no destruction or accidents in the house. Ginger and Rusty are also crate trained and happily sleep together in their crate every night.

These girls are creatures of routine! They love their consistant schedule (most dogs do) and will let their owner know when it is time for feeding and when it is time to snuggle! Ginger is more energetic than her sister and will fetch a ball until she drops. She will come up in your lap for a quick snuggle but then she is off to fulfill her agenda for the day. Rusty is content to just lay on your lap all day and get lovin's - she is the Princess of the two and finds chasing a ball to be just plain silly. When approached, Rusty will roll over and let you give her belly rubs.

They are both in excellent health and just had teeth cleanings in October. They are still active but also spend a majority of their time snoozing and relaxing. Gotta love those seniors! Both are spayed and up to date on shots. The perfect new home for these girls would be one with no other dogs or animals, no children and a fenced in yard. We are under the gun with needing to find a home for these sweeties by 2/7/11 - please send any interested parties our way! Ginger & Rusty are so deserving of a great new home where they can live out the rest of their years with never ending love.  Please call us at 406.323.3687 or drop us an email at wschurch@midrivers.com

ONE DAILY "CLICK" IS ALL IT TAKES!

We here at the Rimrock Humane Society know and understand the difficulties of these tough economic times ... perhaps you could say that we actually comprehend it better than most because it effects us on so many levels.  Not only with the slow down of donations but the continuing rise of animals being surrendered due to affordability issues - it is truly a double edged sword for any non-profit animal welfare organization.

So, when an opportunity comes along that costs YOU absolutely nothing but can award us "mucho denaro" ... well, we'd be silly not to share it right?  That is what we thought ...

The Animal Rescue Site and Petfinder.com sponsor (3) Shelter Challenges every year – these contests are where people can vote for their favorite shelter and that shelter will, in turn, win some very much needed “cash” (if they get enough votes for the specific category).  In the past, the RHS has won the “most popular shelter” in the state of Montana twice which secured us a prize of $1,000/ea which we applied to our very successful spay/neuter program.  There is a national prize of $10,000 which we have tried for in the past but with many large national organizations competing we have decided, in this go around, to focus our sights on winning the Montana prize again of $1,000.  You figure, if we win this prize (3) times a year … that is $3,000 of extra cash for our spay/neuter program that we wouldn’t have had normally.  What a simple way for you to assist us and it costs you nothing!  Just a daily vote every day is all we ask … it is that easy!  We cannot do it without your help though so please read below on how easy this is to accomplish for us.

For those of you have assisted us in the past, you know the routine!  It is a DAILY vote ... not just a one-time deal.  Please cast your vote every day at the link below and be sure to bookmark it for easy reference:

For any newbies, just click on the link and type in Rimrock Humane Society for the shelter name, Montana for the state and Roundup for the city.  Once you do this, it will automatically take you there every time you vote!  It is as easy as that!

Currently, we are 1st in the state and 75th in the Nation!  Please vote every day and forward to your friends and family – we have learned in
the past that it is important to rally early and take the lead quickly!

This contest runs to midnight on March 20th – we will be sending out frequent reminders and be sure to join us on Facebook as we send out daily reminders there as well!

TOYA NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Toya holds the distinction of being our longest resident foster pet in the RHS history - three years this month.  We feel blessed that we can offer loving foster homes to our homeless animals instead of cages or kennels - at any other shelter, Toya would have been just a statisic.

Now, however, we have run into a situation that can only be corrected by moving 8 year old Toya into a new home asap.  This sweet girl is getting very stressed out in her foster home as the home has taken on more foster cats for the RHS and she is NOT enjoying the elevated activity level etc. this brings to the home.  Her stress is manifesting itself into health issues and this is one very unhappy kitty. We always say that when an animals behavior changes, the first thing you need to do is rule out the physical.  So, Toya went straight to the vet and had extensive blood work and a complete, thorough exam.  All came back 100% normal.  Once the physical can be ruled out, then it is time to look at the behavioral aspect of things.  That is where we can tell that her demeanor has changed over the last few months and so has her health, and not for the better. This girl is a big part of our RHS family and we want to do what is right for her.  We believe Toya would be happiest in a home where she is the only kitty or only shares the house with a pet or two.  A senior home or one without a lot of activity would be best for her (no small children).  It breaks our hearts to see one of our own suffering and we cannot allow that to happen.  We are confident that in a new, quiet environment - Toya will come full circle back to the sweet kitty we know she is .... and she will be so much happier as well! Please share this story with others and let's try and find that forever home for this poor girl who deserves a fighting chance at a happy life. Our contact info is 406-323-3687 or wschurch@midrivers.com - thank you in advance for your caring and assistance!

PAMPER YOURSELF & HELP US PAMPER OUR PETS!

Join us for our 4th Annual Pampered Chef Fundraiser to raise money for the homeless animals in Rimrock Humane Society's care! This is not an actual show that you would attend but a virtual/internet fundraiser.  This fundraiser will run from November 23rd until December 17th.  We have had a lot of fun with this the last three years and raised hundreds of dollars to boot!
This year we are going to do things a bit different – just go to the webpage specified below and order straight from there instead of through an actual “show”.  This will enable you to get your products right away and RHS still will receive 20% of all sales.  So go ahead and pamper yourself or get your Christmas shopping off to a good start!  And here is the great news …

Monday, November 29th is Cyber Monday and
there will be FREE shipping on all orders over $75!

Here is how you shop & order:  Go to www.pamperedchef.biz/debfeddes and click on "Shop Online" which is in the middle of the page toward the left.
The next page will give you 2 options.  Choose #2 (not invited to a show but would like to place an order).  Click on "Place an Order" - a warning will pop up about placing an order for an organization, but go ahead and click to get past that also.  You will then be on the page listing all the products available in different categories.  Click on each category to see details/pictures of all the products.  Shop and check out as directed.  It is as easy as that.  Your order will be shipped within a day or two of your order, so you won't have to wait very long (in general, about 7-10 days max to arrive).

PLEASE NOTE:  If your order is more than $150.00, before you place the order please feel free to contact Deb at pdfeddes@theglobal.net and you can order through her to save yourself a bunch of shipping.  This is optional for you, but will save you at least $10 in shipping doing it this way.  She is also more than happy to combine orders with your friends who live nearby to save you all shipping if you want - just contact her before you place an order.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the animals in the Rimrock Humane Society's care. 2010 has proven to be a very busy year for our organization with over (105) animals assisted and we still have more than a month to go! Veterinary costs have totaled over $8,600 so farthis year and our food bill has surpassed the $1,500 mark. Your kindness of placing an order for your Pampered Chef Products through this fundraiser will allow us to continue our important work of helping the homeless animals in our area!

Please be sure to place your orders by December 17th!!!

(The Rimrock Humane Society would like to personally thank our Pampered Chef “professional”, Deb Feddes, for all of her hard work and charitable heart for assisting us with this fundraiser every year.  Deb adopted “Chloe” from us back in the spring of 2003 and approached us in 2007 with this idea to help benefit the homeless animals in our care.  Her caring and sharing is deeply appreciated!)
